Asuras Bride (Completed) WEBTOON Review

SUMMARY:

This high tension romance is just a short story so the characters aren’t as well developed but it definitely satisfies the need for intense emotions that only a steamy romance can provide. So if you aren’t a huge fan of a slow burn, this web comic is for you.

! Spoilers Ahead !

With 11 chapters, Asuras Bride is a short comic on WEBTOON by Lilydusk, the creator of Midnight Poppy Land. The historical romance starts with an arranged marriage between the Shan kingdom and Qian-li kingdom to form an alliance against the warrior king of the north. One problem, The eldest princess is missing. So her sister, steps up and takes her place. On her way, she is kidnapped by bandits and quickly rescued by an exhausted soldier. What will be her fate? We’ll get into that later.

Starting off, the art style is absolutely gorgeous. The creator beautifully complements the historical setting with a traditional Chinese art style. The comic flows perfectly and gives a satisfying aesthetic. As you read, you start to realize that you’ve seen these characters before (if you’ve read Midnight Poppy Land). You also get sucked in to the story and there’s no way you’ll put it down before you’re done. This is why I gave it 4 stars. But there’s a reason it didn’t get 5. I felt that the characters had great potential to have more depth but they didn’t quite live up to it. There was more to the characters that if you didn’t really analyze the story, you completely missed it or didn’t understand. It wasn’t enough to make it unreadable though. Their build up to their relationship also felt a bit choppy. I felt that there could have been more revealed that would help the reader understand why they started falling for each other.

Overall, Asuras Bride is a cute short story that is definitely worth the read. I do hope to see more from these characters and from Lilydusk. If you haven’t read their work you can check it out here:
